Afzelia is an African tropical hardwood species and is traded in several trade groups. The best-known and highest-quality afzelia species is undoubtedly afzelia doussié or afzelia bipindensis.

Due to its excellent properties, afzelia is in durability class 1 and, depending on where the wood comes from, has a yellow-brown to red-brown colour. Afzelia is a wood species that is very easy but slow to dry and has very little working. It has a huge number of applications due to its beautiful appearance and excellent stability. There are also Asian afzelia species, but they are more similar in properties to merbau.
